IMHO, this is a regression since:
- Ubuntu 7.10 works (kernel 2.6.22);
- Gentoo 2008.1 works (kernel 2.6.24);
- Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 3 works (kernel 2.6.26).
Don't know the component which could be broken as I dunno who is
responsible of detecting MSI capable cards.
