This happens to me as well. I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron. I am rather certain it only happens with my wifi card in.

The card is:
Belkin F5D9010

Ubuntu detects the card as:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4401 100Base-T
RaLink RT2600 802.11 MIMO

I believe I'm using this driver:
rt61pci
