I'm not using NetworkManager and have that problem. My wireless adapter is configured through the interfaces file.

It might be a bug that is present in the driver that may or may not be fixed in the kernel that is shipped with Hardy. The driver developers mention on the project's main page that:

[quote][...]two days ago, January 24th, Linux Kernel 2.6.24 was released. This is the first mainline kernel that includes (sadly a somewhat buggy) rt2x00 release.[/quote]

The driver included in Hardy is version 2.0.10, the current version is 2.0.14.
