Bug Description

It's really difficult to use wifi with an Atheros AR5007EG; an user needs to apply by using the command line a special madwifi release that enables support of this card. Also it is incorrectly recognized by lspci as ethernet. Patch and screenshot at the bottom.

iI believe problem is there is no official support (yet) for it in madwifi, but there is a Experimental support for it http://madwifi.org/ticket/1679 (only for 32Bit version) Lets hope they get it in there for 8.10 :)

I'm having the same issue here, had to install a special madwifi package. Also it is seen by lspci as ethernet not wifi which needs to be fixed.

Here's a script to automate the install of the card. Run as root and make executable first.

It would be nice if someone worked on a solution to this. I would do it myself but I don't have the skills necessary to write a driver.

I think thats the same card, this helps me to get it work with 8.10, even though not out of box
but without compilation...

I've just tried the Ubuntu 9.04 beta live CD on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1718, which has (I belive) the Atheros AR5007EG chipset. No wireless networks were detected, so I'm guessing that means this is not working out of the box. I haven't tried the patches yet because I'm not near a wired connection to download them!

i followed Thermaltaker (#7) post and it worked on NEO B3185 with Atheros AR5007EG. This helped me and it worked, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/AR5007

it needs only to be updated, in my case, the

madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r4016-20090429/scripts/

was updated to

madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r4068-20090705/scripts/

and it worked including the one after Updating the Kernel

thanks Thermaltaker for the info and link.

Can you reproduce this problem with a supported Ubuntu version like Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

nelinhosantos, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Is this an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 204589

affects: madwifi-tools (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
