Hello all,

I wish to report a bug with the Linux kernels for the following versions:

5.15.0-79
5.15.0-82
5.15.0-83
6.2.0-32

I do not know whether it is appropriate to raise separate bug reports for these, so I have not done so for the moment.

When I boot my computer using these newer kernels, my CPU temperature increases by 25C-35C above normal, even when idle, and my fan speed is at maximum. This information was gathered using lm-sensors and other tools. I have been directed to raise a bug report here by one of the moderators on the Linux Mint forums and have done so via the link provided in Linux Mint's Update Manager.

I am not aware of any packages that may be causing these problems and my own investigations pinned this down to an issue with the kernel only.

I am running Linux Mint version 21.2 (Victoria) and provide details on my system as an attachment.

I have tried to run the command: ubuntu-bug linux, but I get an error message detailed below:

*** Problem in linux-image-5.15.0-83-generic

The problem cannot be reported:

This does not seem to be an official Linux package. Please retry after updating the indexes of available packages. If that does not work, then remove related third party packages and try again.

I have also tried running the command: sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log, but get the following error message:

pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: No such device

I have managed to run the command: cat /proc/version_signature > version.log and have included the output of this in my attachment. However, this is only for the -83 kernel version, so if you would like me to provide separate attachments for the other kernel versions, please let me know.

I have not made a bug report before of this nature, so I am uncertain as to whether I have followed the instructions in doing so correctly. I am also aware that this is not a support forum for Linux Mint, however, if you require further information from me, please let me know. I will also be updating a thread on the Linux Mint forums to let others know I have made this report and they may well suggest fixes for the above terminal command issues. If this occurs, I will provide further information on the output of these.
