In Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring) I still have to press Fn to get to the function keys. The fix Samuel mentioned in comment #44 above still works fine.

I have to set up this manually time I install a new version of Ubuntu, which is annoying. I'd love for no-Fn to be the default - could Ubuntu consider this? If not I think John's suggestion in comment #51 (making it switchable in Keyboard->Layouts->Options) would be pretty reasonable.
