I have the same issue running Ubuntu 8.04 beta on an inspiron 1501:

earl@mbrainprime:~$ lspci | grep wlan
05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)

I have identical output from lsmod and dmesg.
