Bug Description

Operating system data:

Linux 5.15.0-46-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 4 18:03:25 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Description: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
Release: 22.04

Just installed. When testing Ubuntu there was no problem.

Device data:

Dell Precision 5530 2in1 (Kaby Lake-G workstation)
| Intel Core i7-8706G
| Radeon WX Vega M GL, 4K UHD

What happens:

With kernel to 5.15: Before logging in, just after selecting the linux kernel from grub, the screen goes black, no ubuntu+dell loading screen, no nothing. With the black screen, random vertical and horizontal lines appear and move if the cursor moves. There is no way around this, and the only alternatives to change this is:

1. close the laptop lid (sleep mode) and restart.
2. Connect an HDMI to the USB-C port and then disconnect it.

If either of the two steps is followed, the display corrects itself and works perfectly.

This happened to me using
- Ubuntu 20.04 with Linux 5.15.0.43-generic

And now that I upgraded it also happens to me
- Ubuntu 22.04.1 with Linux 5.15.0-46-generic
- Ubuntu 22.04.1 with Linux 5.18.17-051817
- Ubuntu 22.04.1 with Linux 5.14.21-051421

The error did not appear in using
- Ubuntu 20.04 with Linux 5.13.0-52-generic or earlier
- Ubuntu 22.04.1 with Linux 5.13.0-051300

I will provide all the information you see necessary to solve the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1986740/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
