There are some differences between the working and non working dmesgs regarding the mux capability of the i8042 controller.
Srihari, can you try booting the kernel with "i8042.nomux=1"? If it does not work, try "i8042.reset=1". And if it does not work, try both.

Of course, when the laptop is on a cold boot :)
