I have not tried booting Windows as I don't have Windows installed, but as with Srihari once detected it works fine and is consistently detected again on a warm reboot.
After regular use I can say my touchpad is usually detected OK at startup if the laptop has been off for a long time (several hours). If it has only been off for a few minutes the trackpad is rarely detected on startup. This suggests success in detection is related to some marginal condition affected by heat or residual charge in power supplies.
I have observed what is almost certainly the same bug as reported here: https:/ /bbs.archlinux. org/viewtopic. php?id= 174217
