As a data point, I'm attaching dmesg from when the trackpoint does work in the next entry in this report. It was booted with i8042.debug (without i8042.reset & i8042.nomux, as they've no effect in my case). Perhaps comparing the previous (non-working session) and this one (during working session) sheds some light on the issue??
