The only multimedia apps that I use are Amarok, VLC (and extremely rarely Skype) with both inbuilt speakers/microphone or my old 3.5mm ear-phone/microphone set. All these things just work fine for my use. So that's as multimedia as I'm going to get :-). If what you're talking is more than that, then I didn't even know there's more this laptop can offer & I don't think I'm going to need it anytime soon though.

I've made acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=!* acpi_osi="Linux" permanent in grub. That's taken care of, going forward (although as you've hinted, they haven't helped, but neither have they given me grief, so they can stay). Only i8042.debug to be used on demand, for obvious reasons.

Now on to i8042.debug with your original patches... Won't be long for that dmesg.
