Sorry that your touchpad remains broken in Linux. However, I concur with your analysis that yours looks like a different bug to what is been worked on (and resolved) in this bug report.

(As per your dmesg, after all, your touchpad does get detected, but, as you say, doesn't work afterwards; in our case it wasn't even getting detected.)

May I request you to open a new bug report & perhaps escalating to <email address hidden>, if you observe no traction?

If you interactively type your password in Linux, be careful with i8042.debug, which would simply report it as well! So it's best not to report i8042.debug past the point of login manager start up (be it getty or kdm or gdm etc.). Or use a throwaway account/password combination; or temporarily use password-less login etc.
