Sorry a small & possibly finally addendum :-):

On a kernel (e.g., post 3.19-rc5) with this fix, it takes effect either automatically (if DMI info is already in i8042_dmi_kbdreset_table[] in drivers/input/serio/i8042-x86ia64io.h) or it can be manually enforced by using kernel boot parameter i8042.kbdreset=1. Either way, there will be a kernel message about i8042 core trying to reset the keyboard port.

Naturally, having one's DMI info in that table would make this patch fix automatically applied, without having to manually use the i8042.kbdreset=1 boot parameter. Therefore, all users who manually get their touchpad working on a kernel with this patch fix using that boot parameter should ideally endeavour to have their DMI info listed in the above table for automatic application of this fix. This would certainly be beneficial to them & other users with same/similar configuration.

The best way to accomplish such amendment is to either send a patch (containing updates to aforementioned table in that header file) to linux-input mailing list or notify them of your finding/analysis.

Considering the original bug reported in this bugzilla report has been truly fixed now, ideally this ticket should be closed now.

Thanks
