I can confirm the same behaviour with the iwl4965 driver running a daily livecd build (2.6.24-8, me too on x86_64), it started in 2.6.24-7 if I remember correctly.
I've seeing it happen both with WEP and WPA-Enterprise (TKIP) networks.

By the way, the iwl4965 driver started working much better than before in these releases, it really caused many problems with my WPA Enterprise setup in Gutsy...
