The following workaround per Bug #1881319 Comment #32 does not work on fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04 with 5.8.55

Edit /etc/default/grub file line to below:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash initcall_blacklist=elants_i2c_driver_init"

$ sudo update-grub

reboot
