Recovery mode does not boot for 5.0.4-52

I loaded mainline kernel 5.4.0, and that does not boot either. I got this message from initramfs:

"Initramfms unpacking failed: Decoding failed
Couldn't get size: 0x80000.....
irq 31: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
handlers:
[<000000009ra32e4e>] tis_int_handler
Disabling IRQ #31"

FWIW, when I boot into 5.0.04-52, I don't get any messages in initramfs
