Bug Description

Hi, my notebook Dell G3 3590 has xubuntu 20.04 installed.

The notebook is freezing randomly at boot, with the boot logo. At lock screen or a few minutes after login.
I can not reboot,, not even with Magic SysRq key.

Could not found a specific error with that caused this in the logs.

Tested with nouveau driver and the nvidia driver (450, tested) from the software & updates panel.

Logs are captured after a system freeze. Since nothing reacts anymore, I have to restart the system to capture the logs.

After the dell community forum, I am not the only one with this problem.

---

The workaround with boot option "snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0" from the dell forum is working, but there is no microphone!

pavucontrol:
Internal microphone is not working (no input) and an external microphone is not recognized (one entry is listed as unplugged, even if connected ).

A post at Dell's forum has a workaround solution using a kernel parameter "snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0".

"sound work but microphone won't work"

Freezes are gone with this workaround, but microphone is missing and I need it.

Should the microphone issue be another bug report?

I thought it is related to this issue or workaround.

Please try linux-oem-20.04b kernel. Many SOF fixes.

Thanks, can I test the oem kernel in 20.10 too?
There is only a dummy package in the groovy repository.

I recently upgraded from 20.04 to 20.10 in the hope that something will improve. Otherwise I need to reinstall :/

@kaihengfeng:

Thanks for your information.
The linux-oem-20.04b kernel is installed, at a first test:

- "snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0" must be disabled, otherwise no input device recognized
- without this boot option, internal microphone working
- external headset:
- - output possible
- - NO input, there is a headset microphone port in xubuntu volume control, but nothing comes through
