Just in case this can help anybody. On Ubuntu Studio 20.04 (Xfce), headphones audio started to work after I selected "Audio mixer..." -> "Input Devices" -> "Headset Microphone (plugged in)".
It was "Microphone (plugged in) before I changed. No idea why I had to change something in "Input Devices" to make work something else in "Output Devices" ;-)
