The problem does not appear to happen under Wayland.
I am attaching a zip file containing four sets of the output of the commands you requested spanning the time from before I plugged in the HDMI cable to afterward, waiting long enough to confirm that I was getting black screens rather than the correct behavior after plugging in the cable.
To minimize the content of the zip, I've edited the journal.txt files in all of the sets after the first to remove the logs that were in the previous journal.txt, so if you append all four journal.txt files you will get a complete, consecutive journal.
