The bug reported in 257020 _IS_ the bug here for the BCM4306 and most of the problems in this thread. You will find b43 to be much better than bcm43xx for a couple of reasons. First of all, the softmac used by bcm43xx never was any good - the mac80211, which is used by b43, is much better. Secondly, development on bcm43xx ceased about 18 months ago.
The sprom entry in the /sys tree is provided by ssb and will not be present when ndiswrapper is running.
Note: I am not aware of any BCM4312 cards with an SPROM coding error. Once the firmware is properly installed _AND_ the rfkill switch is properly set to allow the radio to come on, all of them just work.
I would be most interested in the output of 'dmesg | grep b43' for the BCM4312.
