Both Gnome and Gnome-on-Xorg exhibit the same behavior when connecting a DP monitor. The HID freezes until disconnecting the DP screen.

Both Gnome and Gnome-on-Xorg work on HDMI.
I left the HDMI connected when switching between Gnome and Gnome-on-Xorg. When I unplugged HDMI it crashed the Gnome-on-Xorg session. Upon re-logon to that session with no monitor connected Ubuntu automatically created an error report which was generated on 2018 Nov 26 @ 10:34 Pacific Standard Time (18:34 UTC )
