Try this:
1. Edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf as root/with sudo
2. Uncomment the line WaylandEnable=false so it looks like below:
[daemon]
# Uncoment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
WaylandEnable=false
3. Reboot and see if the issue still occurs.
