Thanks. I am no expert either. It seems to me that the problem could owe either to Lenovo's hardware, or to the kernel, or to Ubuntu, or to Debian. Complicating matters, if Lenovo's driver is buggy then it is the kernel's job to compensate for that, I suppose. If the bug should be reported to the kernel, the questions arise: has it been and, if it has not been, who is going to do it? I myself have no experience reporting bugs to/for the kernel itself.
