I'm experiencing the same issue on my dell xps m1330 and the workaround of disabling smp in bios seems to work for me as well.

Since Hardy beta (x86_64) I'm also noticing a great increase in the fan activity despite the bios version having been the same since Gutsy. Do you think this bug is the cause of the fan behaviour?
