I haven't read through this entire report, but I stumbled across it when searching for 'stutter every 5 sexonds'. I too had the issue, across many distros + compositors with Kodi (I didn't really test anything else). I have enabled the tear free option in a xorg.conf and the issue has disappeared. Might be worth you guys trying.
