Tested your -38 kernel for this issue from comment #67 and I can confirm it allows me to log in with SSSD and an LDAP user. Outputs for your requested commands:
1) Ubuntu 4.13.0-38.43+lp1759920.1-generic 4.13.16
2) BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.13.0-38-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro
3) microcode: sig=0x806e9, pf=0x80, revision=0x7c microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.
Been experiencing this on a range of Dell laptops, mostly XPS 13's with Kaby Lake i7's (7560U) and a Precision M3520 with a 7820HQ.
Look forward to this going into mainline!
Many thanks everyone for the hard work discovering the root cause of this bug, it's a really mind-bending one!
