I have experimented with "noacpi" as well. The problem persisted with it.
From what I am learnt from other discussions, the BIOS on the laptop is
causing the issue.
Surprisingly, I am able to use X server while running on battery when using
PCLinuxOS MiniMe 2008
using default drivers. I am yet to try this with accelerated drivers.
