Installed both Ubuntu 17.04 and 16.04 and neither sound or MicroSD card reader are working.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

I have been able to connect to a bluetooth speaker and after changing the mode to High Fidelity Playback was able to get sound. so Bluetooth is working awesome

There's no codec support for CX2072X.
The author of CX2072X support didn't resend a new patch to address also maintainer's concern [1].

I guess this is something you can work on.

it is not recognizing the sdcards installed.  when i update to the
latest kernel it will recognize only small cards.  Both of my Sandisk 64
GB and 16 GB cards are not being recognized.  As far as the sound card
when I install the latest kernel it is recognized but still no sound
which i sent an email to the author of that codex u suggested

couldnt get 4.14-rc4 to load and 4.14.rc3 the wifi wasnt working so the
only one i was able to install and work properly is 4.13.6.  the Sandisk
64 GB card is reconized but the 16 GB card wont read

Is there a way you all can check out this patched kernel which fixes the
sound for this laptop.

It fixes the sound but there still is an issue with the sdcard reader,
some cards work and some dont

The sdcard issue is a tricky one - it's hard to debug without physical access to the hardware. Linux mmc subsystem doesn't print much information.

Someone needs to clean up the CX2072X patch and resend it to upstream. Seems like the original patch author doesn't work on it anymore.
