I am also having the same issue on my Thinkpad E460 under Ubuntu 17.10. It started a couple of week ago and got really annoying. Sometimes the connection is just gone for a few seconds up to 2 or 3 minutes and sometimes it seems turning the WiFi module off and on again helps. The same problem occurs via Ethernet too, but less frequently.
