There is no relation between custom kernel and Ubiquity or the installer. The bug is in today's build: Same message on startup and Kylin opens in try Ubuntu in Chinese(20170117).
Plus , fans and HDD are too noisy to run Zesty under 4.10, even 4.9. I tried 4.10-rc4 when it came out and there was too many noises in Zesty or Xenial. The Ubiquity team introduced this bug a month ago. I don't have any of these issues under Windows 10.
