Bug Description

Hi there, the system does not boot and goes into initransf black screen
I am not an experienced user and I just deleted the 4.4.0-39-generic and use the 4.4.0-38-generic that seem to work very good apart two small issues.
The touch screen does not work after a sleep and to make it to work I have to close the lid and open the lid again and it work!
The sound jack does not give output
Kind Regard

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1627274/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Dear Joseph

I download (http on firefox) and installed using Ubuntu Software

the

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8/linux-headers-4.8.0-040800_4.8.0-040800.201610022031_all.deb

and

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8/linux-headers-4.8.0-040800-generic_4.8.0-040800.201610022031_i386.deb

but when I reboot it still respond to

jaki@jaki-XPS-13-9350:~$ uname -r
4.4.0-38-generic

I am not an expert and I need step by step instructions to be able to do
the testing or I risk to mess up.

Kind Regards

Jacopo

You really don't need to install the -headers package. Just the linux-image package:

Thank you Joseph
I did install the latest
jaki@jaki-XPS-13-9350:~$ uname -r
4.4.23-040423-generic
It boot up nicely and it work fine but I don't know where should I report
fixed upstream as you suggested.

I log into the bug report site and changed the status to "released"
But I don't know where to say Upstream!

Sorry but I am new to all this and just wish to help so I am learning.

As I say in the first report the bug related to the audio jack persist and
since last report I had dell change the motherboard where the jack is hard
installed and the problem persist

Should I make another report? and what type of information should I file to
make sure all the relative data is available to technician

Kind Regard and thank you for the wonderful work you do with Ubuntu
