/lib/firmware/i915/kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin and /lib/firmware/i915/bxt_guc_ver8_7.bin have been present in linux-firmware 1.165 onwards.

I believe the patch to remove the MODULE_FIRMWARE entries, http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-bionic.git/patch/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_guc_fw.c?id=dc0f16f9b5084e6be2b8c79f8c6cd499a3451791, should be reverted now, else many people on Kaby Lake hardware who try to load the GuC firmware will experience errors (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1728238).
