Bug Description

I am running Ubuntu 16.04 on an Acer Aspire V3-472G with Nvidia Geforce 840M graphic cards, proprietary driver.

None of the options for suspend are working. The process of suspend works fine but when the computer is waken, screen stays black and computer becomes unresponsive.

Installation of packets such as uswsusp create a bigger problem as the computer freezes during boot process.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

As per the Bug Description, and attachments, it is. Could you please clarify?

I mean, the driver was indeed installed when I first reported the bug. But when started to try the upstream kernels it was uninstalled. In the recent test with 4.7.2 kernel the driver is no longer installed.

saguti, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of bisecting.

After the offending commit (not kernel version) has been identified, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Being subscriber to this bug and also experiencing it, may I add that suspend/resume/hibernate all worked quite well in 15.04 and 15.10?
So it might help focussing on the changes between 15.10 and 16.04 first.

Machine is a Dell Latitude 3540 from early 2014. No proprietary drivers.

I'm quite busy atm, but if I can help please let me know.
