@dev1 Does your bug occur when using an upstream kernel?
You can test by (a) installing GRUB Customizer (https://launchpad.net/~danielrichter2007/+archive/ubuntu/grub-customizer) and then installing (b) an upstream kernel, say 4.6.x (http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2016/05/install-linux-kernel-4-6-ubuntu-16-04/).
The run GRUB customizer and choose the 4.6 kernel. Reboot & test. If something goes wrong, choose your old kernel and uninstall the 4.6.x kernel.
I've also seen this bug with Sky Lake and the mini-display to VGA adapters. But I agree with @tjaalton, I do not think this is your bug.
