I couldn't wait any longer so I installed ndiswrapper instead of using the built-in fwcutter (restricted drivers manager). This solved my problem, so I assume it's a software problem with fwcutter. Just wanted to let everyone know. I have always had better luck with ndiswrapper anyways.
