I have the same problem.
Host: Windows 10
VMWare Workstation 11.0
Distro: Ubuntu Mate 15.1 Mate 1.10.2

It boots if selecting Kernel 4.2.0-27, but it does not work if selection Kernel 4.2.0-30 in Grub boot screen.
