More details: I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 with ALSA version 1.0.16. My Kubuntu installation has been upgraded since Edgy, rather than cleanly installed, so the sound installation is not necessarily identical to a clean time installation. (E.g. pulseaudio doesn't work quite right.) However, that probably doesn't matter if the issue is with the webcam driver, which is likely since all the complaintants cite a Logitech webcam, right? Again, the webcam works fine, but microphone inserts a clicking noise into the recording every second or so.
output from dmesg | tail
[ 8193.268141] usb 5-5: USB disconnect, address 4
[ 8205.869777] usb 5-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 8204.246446] usb 5-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 8204.247258] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:09c1)
So I'm assuming the webcam uses the uvcvideo kernel module.
