I am now testing
4.0.0-4.7 Ubuntu-4.0.0-4.7 == Mainline 4.0.7
which happens to be 1 Mainline up from my last good Mainline.

If this works I will be going back to bisecting the Ubuntu kernels.

$ uname -a
Linux bianco 4.0.0-4-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 9 15:17:01 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Quite simply I needed "extra" to get network and trackball working:
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-extra-4.0.0-4-generic_4.0.0-4.7_amd64.deb
for some reason I don't need "extra" with the upstream 4.3x kernels.
