Unfortunately I will not be able to test the upstream build to see if it corrected the problem.

A couple of days ago I went ahead and did a fresh install of 15.10 (full partition wipe and re-installed). This has fixed the issue. The touchpad now works correctly after a fresh install of 15.10.
