I confirm this bug. It affects me as well: just upgraded from 14.04 to 15.04 and then 15.10. In both new versions the touchpad is not working.
NOTE: the buttons DO work, but the tracking of the cursor doesn't.
Also, the workaround mentioned above doesn't work for me, however a slightly modified one does (partially!):

sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

works for me and enables the touchpad at boot when put in crontab. HOWEVER, the tracking is not good. There is an acceleration problem that makes it uncomfortable to use, and ALSO the two finger scrolling or any other gestures are NOT WORKING.
