yes that is correct. i had no issues with 14.04.
i gave up though, i switched to a clean 15.10 and am having no issues now. i tried a clean 15.04 first but ran into a few issues installing/booting and decided if i was going to experience bugs they might as well benefit the alpha development.

so thanks for your help anyway, it doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else at the moment so your time is probably better spent elsewhere. :)
