Wrong screen resolution

I do not have clear picture of that, but with older kernel mys screen is working better. Of course is it relating some other things too, like VGA / DVI.

I would add that I have the same problems with Knoppix and Debian, so this bug is not Ubuntu specifix. I would like to add tag:kernel-bug-exists-upstream but I do not know if it is OK.

Still affect other kernels, so it also affects other kernels. A bit hard to check, I need to install new kernel and so on. Still I am gratefull from hint to solve with Bios update, it helped on some other problems.

That was latest bios available, when I upgrade it. And computer is old.

Ilari, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:

Ilari, if one follows the article as advised, the same kernel you tested is at the top http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D .

Also, you don't have to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so.

Despite this, could you please advise which prior kernel version specifically didn't demonstrate this problem?

I cannot say what is the last working version, but
3.2.0-x tree has not that bug.
3.2.0-80 kernel is now in use.

And now I am using DVI not VGA. Maybe you wish me to check if it works better with VGA?

And sorry for extra files, I added those for some extra check. And especially for confirm that I use now latest bios update.

No visible changes with rc6 or rc7 in using default settings, just the same errors.

Ilari, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.2 to 3.13 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting.

How about taking a shortcut? I have an idea that reason is in moving some extension from X server in kernel. And I also think that those changes broke some code in at least some BSB variants. Or rather make some problems. And BSB folk started to backport something from Linux in BSB drivers, at least in FreeBSB.
