Actually, Boris was right. Lars I recommend you read the PPC FAQ.
The graphics section makes it quite clear that there's no mechanism in place to determine the appropriate graphics settings for your particular hardware:

Furthermore, if such a mechanism could exist, PPC is ultimately unsupported. We, as the Lubuntu community, are supporting it, but we don't have the resources to dedicate to innovating for PPC.
Lastly, keep in mind that what works for Radeon might create problems for Nvidia.
That being said, really, if we have a workaround, it's fixed.
