Hi all,
as suggested, I tried to install the latest v3.17 kernel[0] in Ubuntu 14.10.

Hardware:
elitebook 840
hp ultraslim docking station 2013

Software Ubuntu 14.10
- with both the default kernel and the 3.17
- without using AMD drivers
- installing the drivers available in the Additional Drivers tool (fglrx)
- installing the drivers downloaded from the AMD website

In the best situation, the external monitors are not rightly recognized (just 1 monitor with a lower resolution) but the screen is always off.
