Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release: 14.04
Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic
Hardware:
1x Silverstone EC05 = Marvell 88SE9130 (motherboard does not load the Marvell BIOS extension)
1x Dawicontrol PM-6510 = Sil3726 (no RAID configured = port multiplier mode)
5x Hitachi HDS5C3020BLE630 (Firmware Revision: MZ4OAAB0)

Before enabling Power-Up In Standby (PUIS) for each Hitachi HDD there are *five* Hitachi drives detected:
$ lsscsi
[4:0:0:0] disk ATA OCZ-VERTEX 1.3 /dev/sda
[5:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdb
[7:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdc
[8:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdd
[9:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sde
[10:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdf
[12:0:0:0] process Marvell 91xx Config 1.01 -

What I expected to happen was (after turning off the system power, and later on rebooting the system), that this list of detected drives didn't change and that the link speed is 3.0 Gbps.

What happens instead, after enabling Power-Up In Standby for all 5 Hitachi drives && power off && boot, is that only *three* out of five attached Hitachi drives are detected:
$ lsscsi
[4:0:0:0] disk ATA OCZ-VERTEX 1.3 /dev/sda
[5:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdb
[7:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdc
[9:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdd
[12:0:0:0] process Marvell 91xx Config 1.01 -

and the SATA link speed is reduced from "SATA link up 3.0 Gbps" to "SATA link up 1.5 Gbps".

More details:
========
1. "Power-Up In Standby feature set" is available for this Hitachi HDS5C3020BLE630 HDD according to hdparm -I output.

2. Power-Up In Standby (PUIS) was enabled using this command:
$ sudo hdparm -s1 --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing /dev/sd{b,c,d,e,f}

3. Dmesg output before hdparm -s1 --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing /dev/sd{b,c,d,e,f}:

After a hot/warm boot (pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del) or reboot all five drives are detected:

$ lsscsi
[4:0:0:0] disk ATA OCZ-VERTEX 1.3 /dev/sda
[5:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdb
[7:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdc

[9:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sde
[10:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdf
[12:0:0:0] process Marvell 91xx Config 1.01 -

But after a cold boot (power cycling) still only 3 of 5 PUIS drives are detected:
$ lsscsi
[4:0:0:0] disk ATA OCZ-VERTEX 1.3 /dev/sda
[5:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdb
[7:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdc
[9:0:0:0] disk ATA Hitachi HDS5C302 MZ4O /dev/sdd
[12:0:0:0] process Marvell 91xx Config 1.01 -

The relevant dmesg part for a warm boot:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1347936/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
