Bug Description

The bug appeared after installing the linux-image-2.6.32-61-generic package.

The bug doesn't happen when I manually booted with the image from linux-image-2.6.32-60 (ESC key when Grub countdown and select the "60" kernel).

I first though it was a firefox bug. I uninstalled "flash-plugin-installer" but the problem still occur : I couldn't use the window content nor the menu bar.

I next installed Midori and lauchned it. It worked well for a few minutes. Then I had the same issue (window content frozen, can't access to the menu bar).

I notice that a virtual console (GNOME Terminal) had the same issue.

I installed the proprietary graphic driver from NVIDIA but it didn't fix the bug.

I finally went back to the previous kernel and the bug disappeared.

I have found exactly same as reported by Jérôme.

I know Lucid reached EOL of course but Lucid is ideal for me and I did not like 12.04 and Unity although have it installed on another partition. Life has recently changed drastically for me and I do not have the time or the wish or energy to upgrade and get familiar with 12.04, so I will live with linux-image-2.6.32-60 and Lucid. Thanks anyway.

richard allen, one is not forced to use the desktop environment Unity in 12.04. One may use the GNOME2-like interfaces via the package gnome-shell, or installing Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, etc.

I am having a similar problem. Some of the programs I am trying to run just hang. They range from Take Screenshot to more complex things like wine and a program running on top of it. 2.6.32-60 runs fine. 2.6.32-61 hangs up the entire box almost. Some resource is locked and that lock is forcing processes into a wait.

Geoff Roach, thank you for your comment. However, as this bug report is closed, the scope of it does not cover you, your problem or your hardware. So your hardware and problem may be tracked, could you please file a new report with a supported version of Ubuntu (not Lucid) by executing the following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux

Just to let people know:
Have just updated my 10.04 with Linux ubuntu1004 2.6.32-62-generic #125-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 9 16:05:41 UTC 2014 i686 GNU/Linux
and Firefox all seems to be OK now.
So thanks if the bug (bugs) were investigated after all or perhaps its just that kernel ...62 was differs fortuitously in that respect from ...61
Cheers
