I have read the section mentioned above and it is question of commit bisecting the mainline kernel.
Sorry but i have not found a chapter describing this process.

Are mainline kernels and upstream kernels the same.

If this is the case i can apply the descriptions in chapter Commit bisecting upstream kernel versions
