I'm using an Acer C720P with Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 (with Gnome updated to 3.14 from PPA) and mainstream kernel 3.18 installed, getting this way touchpad and touchscreen working.
I have been experiencing also a long delay durin boot time, as described here.
the delay is gone, Ubuntu boots normally, both with 3.18 mainstream kernel and Utopic stock kernel 3.16 (with this stock kernel touchpad and touchscreen do not work, I need to use a USB mouse)
I use "quiet" and "splash" on the GRUB line to boot in the "normal" Ubuntu way, without seeing all the kernel boot messages. It's a cosmetic only question.
