I'm using 14.04 on an HP ProBook 6460b.

I have the same issue.

It used to dim the laptop screen when the monitor is unplugged. Then plugging it in again and removing it brought the controls back.

As of today, even plugging the screen multiple times is not bringing back the controls. I really think we need this fixed.
